We Need Your Help / Landlines

March 8, 2024

AT&T wants to eliminate phone landline service. Whether you have a landline or not, they are an important public safety option in our city. As you may already have heard, AT&T has petitioned the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to be allowed to discontinue their obligation to provide POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) throughout California. The CPUC is in the process of taking public testimony (written or verbal) before rendering their decision on AT&T’s petition. The CPUC has told us they must have individual residents testifying in order to consider exempting our community from AT&T’s request.

As a resident of Hidden Hills, you know how critical landline service is. Given our frequent internet and electrical outages, poor-to-non-existent cellular phone service, and constant threat of natural disasters, losing the reliability of landline service is potentially catastrophic. We do not have to look further than Woolsey Fire to know how necessary landline service was to our community’s survival.

The City of Hidden Hills has launched a vigorous campaign against AT&T’s request, and we need your help! THE CPUC NEEDS TO HEAR YOUR VOICE. You may submit your public comment in following ways:

  1. SUBMIT YOUR PUBLIC COMMENT ONLINE
To submit your public comment online, click HERE.
  2. EMAIL A LETTER TO THE CPUC
The email address to submit your letter to the CPUC committee is: public.advisor@cpuc.ca.gov
NOTE: Subject Line must read “CPUC Public Comment – Case A2303003, AT&T Applications Regarding COLR and ETC Designation”

For your convenience, the City has prepared two pre-written templates. Feel free to use one as-is, edit it as you prefer, or use the bullet points as talking points. Thank you for your partnership. If you would still like to sign up for a landline while they remain available, please call 800-288-2020 and request a POTS (plain old telephone service) line.
