Who to Call and When

In any situation involving suspicious activity or a potential crime, contacting the appropriate law enforcement agency immediately is critical. Prompt reporting ensures that deputies can respond quickly, assess the situation, and take appropriate action to protect residents and the community.

The information below is provided to help residents know who to call, when to call, and what additional public safety resources are available.

Who to Call and When

Call 911 for emergencies requiring immediate assistance from law enforcement, fire services, or medical responders, including:

  • You witness or suspect criminal activity (e.g., burglary, assault, vandalism, theft, domestic disputes)
  • You observe fire, smoke, or hazardous conditions
  • You see violence, threats, or weapons
  • There is a medical emergency or someone is in immediate danger
  • A situation requires law enforcement authority, such as arrests or legal intervention
  • 911 should be contacted anytime there is a threat to life, safety, or property

Contact the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station at (818) 878-1808 for non-emergencies, such as:

  • Suspicious activity (but not dangerous or urgent)
  • Theft that has already occurred (e.g., package theft discovered after the fact)
  • Vandalism or graffiti discovered after the incident
  • Identity theft, fraud, or scams
  • Ongoing neighbor disputes
  • Repeated disturbances or nuisance behavior
  • Non‑injury vehicle accidents
  • Traffic hazards and/or complaints
  • Noise complaints

Call Covered 6 Security When:

  • There are parking violations, gate malfunctions, or access‑control issues
  • You observe unfamiliar vehicles or individuals inside the community
Covered 6’s role is to respond quickly, assess the situation, and either resolve it or escalate it appropriately. Covered 6 does not replace law enforcement response.

DO NOT CALL COVERED 6 UNTIL YOU HAVE FIRST CONTACTED THE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT.

  • Request Vacation Check. Residents may request a vacation check while traveling.  Deputies will stop by your home while you are away and provide a visual inspection.  Schedule a vacation check below.  Please include name, address, contact number while away, dates of travel, and any additional information, such as a housesitter, pets, or if workers will be at your house.
  • Request Home Assessment. Residents may request a home assessment.  Sheriff’s Deputies will meet with residents, walk your property, and make recommendations to better secure your home.
