Preparation starts before the rain. The City of Hidden Hills is beginning Phase 1 of our community storm preparedness efforts. Residents are encouraged to take proactive steps now to prepare their homes and properties before winter weather arrives.
Hidden Hills El Niño Preparedness Phase 1
Phase 1 Checklist
- Trees: Have Aleppo pines and other heavy or tall trees inspected and trimmed before the first storm, as your arborist recommends. Use a licensed and insured tree trimmer.
- Drainage: Clear gutters and downspouts, and make sure downspouts discharge away from foundations. Clean out flat grass drains, V ditches, and driveway grates.
- Slopes and Walls: Check slopes for erosion gullies, surface cracks, and slumping. Inspect retaining and garden walls for cracks, leaning, or rotation.
- Roof: Check for leaks, including around flashing, and consider a roof inspection.
- Generator: If you have one, have it serviced and tested.
- Communications Backup: Make sure you have a backup to your AT&T landline, internet, and mobile service.
- Emergency Alerts: Register for City voice, text, and email alerts.
- Flood Insurance: If your property is in a flood-prone area, consider flood insurance.
