The City’s annual perimeter brush clearance program is wrapping up this week. Each year, this program clears brush along Hidden Hills’ perimeter, next to the Mountain View and Ahmanson Ranch areas. This year, the City partnered with California Grazing to complete the clearance using goat grazing.

Defensible Space Beyond the Standard

The standard brush clearance rule requires 100 feet of defensible space. Hidden Hills goes further:

• On the Mountain View side, the Mountain View Homeowners Association clears its own required 100 feet first.
• On the Ahmanson side, MRCA clears its own required 100 feet first.

The City then brings in California Grazing’s goats on both sides to clear an additional 100 feet — for 200 feet of combined clearance along the perimeter, double the standard requirement.

This program reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to reducing wildfire risk, given Hidden Hills’ terrain and equestrian character.

Reminder: Residents should maintain defensible space on their own properties and keep fire safety plans current as fire season continues.
