The Evacuation Warning for Hidden Hills has been lifted as of 2:35 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
We also want to take this opportunity to clarify information regarding brush clearance along the City’s perimeter, as there has been some confusion and misinformation circulating in the community.
Neither the City of Hidden Hills nor the Hidden Hills Community Association owns the land surrounding the City’s perimeter. The land is owned and/or managed by other entities, including Mountain View Estates and State Parks/MRCA, depending on the location. Those property owners are responsible for their required brush clearance.
The City’s supplemental brush clearance effort, which is performed using goats, is an additional risk-mitigation measure. After the responsible property owners complete their required clearance, the City performs an optional additional clearance of approximately 100 feet, where permitted, to provide an added layer of protection for the community. Because the City does not own the land, this additional work requires coordination and permission from the applicable property owner.
Mountain View Estates is scheduled to begin its required 100-foot brush clearance on or around June 1. This is why many residents may have heard June referenced as the brush clearance timeframe. The City did inquire in March about whether Mountain View Estates could begin its brush clearance work earlier this year; however, Mountain View Estates was not able to start earlier.
The City of Hidden Hills is scheduled to begin its optional additional 100-foot brush clearance using goats on or around July 1, after the initial clearance work is completed.
June 1 is approximately 10 days away, and the Fire Department has advised in writing that this timeframe is acceptable.
For residents who live along the perimeter, or for anyone with specific concerns regarding brush growth near their property, the appropriate contact may depend on the location of the property:
- Mountain View Estates: (805) 987-8945
- Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA): (323) 221-9944
- California State Parks / Malibu Creek State Park: (310) 457-8144
Residents may also contact City Hall at (818) 888-9281, and staff can help direct you to the appropriate entity. Residents are also encouraged to contact City Hall with any fire safety concerns.
At its April meeting, the Hidden Hills City Council voted to fund the additional optional brush clearance and directed staff to look into whether brush clearance could occur more than once per year and/or earlier in the year. Because the City does not own the surrounding perimeter land, any additional clearance would require coordination with, and permission from, the applicable property owners. Staff has also been coordinating with the Fire Department regarding this issue and will provide additional information as it becomes available.
We are grateful to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Ventura County Fire Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and all emergency personnel who continue to respond to the Sandy Fire. City staff will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates if conditions change.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation during the Sandy Fire response. The safety of our residents remains the City’s top priority, and we will continue to provide accurate and timely information to the community.
